Meet Alistair Dent MBE
Alistair Dent is a former butcher who has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for various UK charities over the years.
Much of the money was raised through twice-yearly charity book sales. In 2006, Alistair’s community work was recognised when he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
In 2023, a jokey charity “Gnome Amnesty” became so successful that one person dropped off 25 garden gnomes for rehoming!
When Alistair retired in 2025, the idea of Gnomeagedent was born. With help from his friend Fred Lyons, he transformed the former butcher’s shop into a rescue, restoration and resale centre for gnomes and garden ornaments.
All profits support the Norfolk adult and children’s hospices: Tapping House and EACH—East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
Possibly the only centre of its kind in the UK—and perhaps the world—Gnomeagedent has been featured on BBC national television and radio.
Ali now welcomes visitors to his shop from all over the UK and has even received an order from Australia!
